7 Questions for Eric Hutchinson
Posted by hutchead on April 1, 2008
HH – How did you first become interested in playing music?
EH – I’ve always loved music and for as long as I can remember I’ve enjoyed playing it. I used to make up my own songs with my brother and sister when we were kids. And I’ve been writing songs ever since.
HH – I know you play guitar and keyboards and sang all (I think all) of the backup vocals on Sounds Like This, do you play any other instruments?
EH – I don’t play any other instruments beside guitar and piano. That is me doing all the back-up vocals on the album (with the exception of a group sing along at the end of “Food Chain“). Those vocals are really fun for me to do. I consider my voice my best instrument, so getting to do extra vocal parts is the closest I can get to taking a solo.
HH – What was the first concert you ever attended?
EH – My first concert was a jazz concert my uncle took me too. The band was Spyro Gyra. My first pop concert was Paula Abdul with Color Me Badd opening. What a show!!
HH – Who are you listening to right now? What are the last 3 albums you bought?
EH – Amy Winehouse – “Back to Black“. I’ve been re-examining this album and paying more attention to her singing style and the great production on the songs.
Vampire Weekend – Self-Titled. These guys are getting tons of buzz, and I love how they sound like an indie version of “Graceland” by Paul Simon.
Rilo Kiley – “Under The Blacklight“. Jenny Lewis writes really interesting lyrics and the band decided to take a new turn in their sound on this album, which I find interesting to listen to.
HH – If you were stranded on an island, with only 1 album to listen to, what would it be?
EH – Choosing one album would be really hard, but I think for sheer enjoyability, plus a great mix of ballads and uptempo songs, I’d have to go with “Abbey Road” by The Beatles.
HH – If you could collaborate with any one artist, dead or alive, who would it be?
EH – I really want to work with Kanye West. I love his albums and the sounds he creates!
HH – What inspires you?
EH – I try to find inspiration in the minutia of life and love.
Thanks Eric! If there is something you would like to ask Eric, leave a comment, if there is enough interest we will see if Eric will put up with some more questions.

You didn’t ask his favorite color. Plus, he’s dead.
It is cool that he’s into my girl Jenny. But Vampire Weekend? Really? In the words of KillFace (Frisky Dingo), “Welcome to five month ago.”

Those were some great questions!! I also love Kanye West. Haha!
How about the Jo Bros being a fan of his? Has he met the Jonas Brothers yet? Haha! Eric was in their top friends on myspace for a while. AWW MAN! That reminds me I saved that interview where they mentioned him. I was going to bring it to Austin and I forgot!

thanks cool eric likes vampire weekend. I saw them sat night then eric on sun night. fun weekend. both artists just have 1 album so they couldn’t play that long but long enough for me to be happy. vampire weekend’s show was packed to the extreme. It was nice to see Eric and be able to move around.

Ask Eric, “How did you feel with the sudden fame?”
Maggie said
You should ask him what qualities he likes in a person.
